Dan Isomura
Dan Isomura graduated from the painting course of Tokyo University of the Arts and has spent time as artist in residence at Silpakorn University, Bangkok, an institute highly respected in Thailand for its art and archeology research. This exhibition draws upon the principles of Thai Buddhism and is inspired by the Hell Temples of the country which attempt to depict the horrors of the underworld. In this, his first solo exhibition, Isomura states “Hell is a product of the imagination of living human beings. The hells depicted in these temples are brought to shape by the hand of the creator, the sin which brings one to hell reflects the values of the times, and the punishment one will receive is often embedded in the real world. Here I attempt to take up events in the real world and examine them from the star of hell, like a little devil looking on upon our living human world.” Here the living viewer will confront their karma and cast new eyes upon this world.
