Takuma Ishikawa
Takuma Ishikawa examines photography’s function as a generator of image and meaning not only from an aesthetic stance, but also from documentarian and other social standpoints. His works explore photography’s potential as a specially constructed language existing between fiction and non-fiction and expression and record.

His photography series “Filming Location: Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (2013) set out to document a search for a place in Japan to do a new remake of the frequently remade science fiction film. For “Crossing Borders” (2015), he filmed three actors riding in a car to an unknown destination, asked only to believe that they would not be returning to the place they started from.

“Lessons and Conveyance,” Ishikawa’s first solo exhibition at Talion Gallery in two years, features new video work and photography observing a dance lesson attended by three women. Acting as instructor, demonstrator, and audience, the trio presents a complete process of deconstruction through expressive, irregular rhythms.
