Czech Cinema In The Year of Czech Culture 2017

From silent films of the 1920s to early talkies, postwar genre films, Czechoslovak New Wave masterpieces, and 1970s cinema following the Prague Spring, this series introduces a program of 26 Czech films including some that have never been shown in Japan before. Most, including Carl Junghans’ “Such is Life,” Jiří Menzel’s “Closely Watched Trains,” and Milos Formans’ “The Firemen’s Ball,” have English subtitles. Film critic Michal Bregant will give a talk on December 9 (Sat). from 1:45 p.m. Please see the official website for a full program and schedule.
