Chim↑Pom
The Other Side features Chim↑Pom’s latest art projects staged along the border wall in Tijuana and San Diego in 2016 and 2017. Chim↑Pom has been creating works dealing with border issues in the U.S. since 2014, such as “Coyote” (2014, exhibited in NY and Tokyo), “U.S.A. Visitor Center” (2016), “Libertad” and “The Grounds” (both 2017). This series of projects, including new works, was triggered by Chim↑Pom member Ellie’s personal issue of being restricted from entering the U.S., which led Chim↑Pom to work on the subject of borders in various places throughout history. As they realized in the international exhibition“Don’t Follow the Wind,”in which Chim↑Pom examined the restricted area in Fukushima resulting from TEPCO’s nuclear power accident, there are a number of “restricted areas” all over the world.
