Witness superb works by three contemporary artists pushing the limits of time and dimension, presented along with 20 copperplate prints by Yozo Hamaguchi.

Tsunao Okumura has been practicing “embroidery as performance” for more than 20 years. Stitching during his job as a night watchman, he has accumulated more than 1000 hours of pulling a needle through small cloths. Is this simply the accumulation of an enormous amount of time, or is it avant-garde theater? Okumura’s “Night Guard Embroidery,” the intriguing product of 7,200 hours, is introduced.

The artistic duo Nerhol (Yoshihisa Tanaka and Ryuta Iida) layers and cuts stacks of photographs to reveal distortions in time and presence. Nerhol is best known for photo sculptures made from 200 shots of the same person taken over a three-minute period. The cuts in these images show the subject in inner and outer layers. Here Nerhol presents new works from this series and the recent “Roadside Tree” project, creating a quiet space for contemplation.

The young artist Nanae Mitobe has been attracting attention in recent years with her oversized paintings of faces. She unsparingly layers and fearlessly demolishes the faces of anonymous subjects, sometimes going through more than 100 tubes of oil paint in a single day. Her boldly colored, richly textured paintings take on the properties of sculpture.
