Hiroshi Ono

Ono is a photographer who looks at everyday life in Japan with a calm analytical approach that uses gentle humor to scratch the away at the surface. For example, he looks at the scars left by the Pacific War, the sites of major incidents that have shaken Japanese society, the place of present day turning points and the disaster zone created in the wake of the unprecedented Great East Japan Earthquake, as well as commonplace scenery, handling these subjects in parallel and with equal weight. As a Japanese man residing abroad in the Netherlands, he draws out a sense of what kind of country Japan is and what happiness is for those Japan.
