Established in September 2014, “Future of Creation” is an exhibition series curated by four leading creators in the worlds of art and architecture: Toshio Shimizu (art director), Ryohei Miyata (goldsmith), Toyo Ito (architect), Kengo Kuma (architect). Taking place over three-month intervals, the exhibitions present progressive ideas from various disciplines.

For the 13th edition, art critic Toshio Shimizu presents the contemporary art of Motomasa Suzuki, a 2017 VOCA prize-winning sculptor whose wood sculptures reference landscapes from American movies. Recreating their buildings and streets on original scales, these creations may seem like toys at first glance, but upon closer inspection they reveal visual discrepancies like the warped lighting of films, creating unusual experiences that subtly shake our perception.

The title “MOD” is short for “modification,” specifically the act of video game players altering or adding to games at their own will. Three works from Suzuki’s lightbox series “Ghost” and seven new wooden sculptures are on display. At Gallery 2.
