The Industrial Arts Institute (IAI), a national institution that conducted research on craft and industrial design to further industrial development, was launched as the Industrial Arts Research Institute (IARI) in 1928 and recognized by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1952. This exhibition introduces trial products that the IAI developed and reference products it collected from throughout Japan and overseas. It focuses on the 1950s and 1960s, exploring visions of design and of lifestyles that Japan aspired to during its postwar recovery and the period of rapid economic growth.
