Kishu+
Kishu lacquerware that dates back to the Muromachi era (1336-1573) continues to be produced in Kishu, one of the four major lacquerware production areas in Japan. In looking to create functional lacquerware items and breathe new life into the craft, Kishu+ has adopted various new technologies, such as the production of synthetic lacquer and materials made from resin. While respecting handicraft traditions, Kishu+ is keen to update the production of such items and develop a movement towards “cutting-edge craft.” See the latest lineup produced by Kishu+, an initiative launched by five lacquerware producers based in the Kishu region. This is a chance to glimpse these items before they appear at Maison et Objet Paris 2018.
