Yukino Iwatsuki has consistently addressed the theme of “seeing,” expressing an everyday universal beauty that is laid bare through earnest looking. The Japanese-style room, which is central to the works in this exhibition, is a key motif for Iwatsuki. Using beds and chairs that lift you up off the floor changes everything. For Iwatsuki, it is from the futon and the floor cushions that the heavenly scenery of the outdoors, and what is most important, that can be seen best.
