Ryuichi Morita
Ryuichi Morita has been active in Japan’s underground art scene for more than 40 years. He has continued his painting series “Chinmoku no Fu” (Notes of Silence) for over seven years now. He sets his sights on the small factories and their workers experiencing decline due to globalization and nostalgia for scenery that is disappearing amid urbanization. Incorporating social realism and its themes in his work, he also includes hints of his own life and references to favorite artists such as Ben Shahn and Shunsuke Matsumoto.
