Artists

Le Corbusier, Kunio Maekawa
In 2016, the National Museum of Western Art in Ueno became the first World Heritage site registered in Tokyo. This exhibition, organized in cooperation with Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, commemorates this momentous event. It will present the work and architectural approach of French architect Le Corbusier, who was the designer behind the National Museum of Western Art, and Japanese architect Kunio Maekawa, who studied directly under Le Corbusier, across three venues: Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. In the house where Maekawa lived in 1942 - which is now forms part of Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum -
various works by Le Corbusier will be on exhibit, showing the influence he had on Japan, as well as items that present the world and architecture of Maekawa.
