Norimichi Hirakawa “Datum”

Yutaka Kikutake Gallery
Finished

Artists

Norimichi Hirakawa
Norimichi Hirakawa began the “Datum” audio-visual project as a study of art in high-dimensional space during his residence at the KAVLI Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe. His prototype was displayed at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art in October, 2016, and an audio-visual installation was featured at Sapporo’s Moerenuma Park February 16–February 19, 2017.
YKG Gallery exhibits prints from Hirakawa’s “Datum” project. As with his installation, pixels from movie data are converted to a six-dimensional X,Y,R,G,B,T grid rotated in the same space to produce equivalencies in gradation and time. These visuals creating data rather than destroying it bring forth the essence of numerical sequencing in digital data stripping away the meaning of reality.
