Process of the Sea – Words’ Atlas

Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Hideo Nakane, Seiji Hirata, Jyunko Ikawa, Naoyo Fukuda
Four artists selected from the “Group Show of Contemporary Artists 2017” exhibition hosted by Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum will present their work here: Hideo Nakane, Seiji Hirata, Junko Ikawa and Naoyo Fukuda.

This project has been organized by Hideo Nakane and Seiji Hirata, who studied at art college in London in the mid 1990s and went on to form the exhibition planning unit, “Aesthetic Life,” in 2009 in order to evoke a sense of the “aesthetic” in real life. They curated their second major group show - “Aesthetic Life - Automatic” - in 2015, based on a Poetry/ Drawing book created by two British artists, Amikam Toren and Peter Stickland.

For this event, Junko Ikawa and Naoyo Fukuda will join their unit to form “Aesthetic Life+,” and the four artists will draw a map (atlas) that interacts with the realm of “words,” encouraging a multilayered exhibition experience for viewers.
