Katsuji Abe “Portraitures of Jazz”

Ricoh Imaging Square Ginza 8F, A.W.P Gallery zone
Finished

Artists

Katsuji Abe
Photographer, graphic designer, and producer Katsuji Abe made significant contributions to the jazz scene with his photographs of jazz musicians including Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, and others. Abe is the only Japanese person to receive the Milt Hinton Award, the highest honor for jazz photographers. He enjoyed close relationships with many of the artists and was able to capture them in natural, unguarded ways. This two-part exhibition presents 100 of Abe’s black and white photographs of jazz musicians in their original prints.
