Todo
Todo is known for works in which significant debris, minerals or old books are combined with laminated glass, incorporated materials such as the bricks of buildings that were destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake or parts of the Berlin Wall. This said, he has created a wide variety of other works, including large quantities of drawings produced on a daily basis and an installation constructed out of numerous wooden boxes, with the boxes used as small spaces within the installation. In Todo’s works, the texture and identity of materials is capitalized upon and honed through craftsman-like handwork.
The title of this exhibition “Bau / Bau” refers to two words: “abbau,” which means to demolish or remove, and “aufbau” which means build or structure in German, and will present an installation that reconstitutes the space using scaffolding. This dynamic architectural experiment will explore the exciting world surrounding “material” and “space.”
