Murmur and Tumult: Masterpieces of Les Nabis from the Musée d’Orsay

Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, Maurice Denis, Félix Edouard Vallotton et al.
In the late 19th century, a group of young avant-garde artists formed in Paris, inspired by Paul Gauguin and by Japanese ukiyo-e. They were known as Les Nabis, meaning “prophets.” The Les Nabis artists ― namely Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, Maurice Denis, and Félix Vallotton, among others ― quietly developed their own innovative style of art. This exhibition is directed by the Musée d’Orsay, which holds the most important collection of works by Les Nabis. This is the first time that such an extensive exhibition of works by Les Nabis, whose art has recently been gaining international recognition, has been brought to Japan.
