Zureta International Contemporary Printed Art Exhibition

The University Art Museum - Tokyo University of the Arts
Finished
Art History loves to tell the story of perfect masterpieces produced as a result of genius, but all artists know that quite often outstanding work is created through failure rather than success. Printmaking is a complex process that offers plenty of opportunities for mistakes to be made. The artists in this show share this knowledge and introduce work that has been created following a failure. The title of the show, “zureta,” describes in Japanese terms a slippage. It is the slippage of misaligned plates that so often provides the inspiration for new print work. Young artists from 19 different universities in 14 countries across five continents will share the fruits of their “zureta” moments here.
