The collection exhibition is an annual event, organized under a new theme each year that is chosen to bring out the best in the collection. For this installment, the gallery will present works from across the seasons: spring, summer, autumn, winter. Japan is a country that enjoys four distinct seasons, and the changing nature has long been celebrated by the Japanese. Enjoy the diversity of works on show from this collection that centers on postwar art, and follow each of the seasons through the 90 artworks on display, which includes oil paintings, nihonga, print works, photographs, drawings and manga. Two of the special works presented here are printmaker Kashio Baba’s life work depicting one hundred views of Yokohama city throughout the seasons, and couple Toyoko Tokiwa and Taiko Okumura’s collaborative photography project that shows the appearance of Yokohama in the years after the war.
