Artists

Yutaka Matsuzawa, Yoshiko Shimada et al.
Exhibition of work by Yutaka Matsuzawa (1922-2006), the founder of Japanese Conceptualism. The event is curated by Yoshiko Shimada and focuses on Matsuzawa’s activities during the years 1969-1973, when he was most active. It was at this time that Matsuzawa organized the exhibition “Nirvana” (1970), with participation from international artists. It is also when he began developing his idea of a “free commune.” This is a chance to re-examine the works and thoughts of Matsuzawa. The items presented are taken predominantly from the Matsuzawa archive, which Shimada is currently researching. It will be the first time many of them have been made public.
