Ummmi. “Mire of Dickhead Demon”

This is the first solo exhibition for Ummmi., a 24 year-old video artist whose work has been featured at shows including Image Forum Film Festival, the Pompidou Centre’s Hors Pistes Tokyo, and the 2016 Shibukaru Matsuri. Also a novelist, Ummmi. is recognized for her outstanding talent in both film and writing. She received the 2016 Teiya Iwabuchi Bijutsu Techo Editor’s Prize at the 2016 Contemporary Art Foundation Awards.
Love is a theme throughout her works, but not “typical” expressions of it – she is interested in either the love of so-called “minorities” or other lesser-explored forms of love. Some of her works are based on her own experiences, but they are not necessarily autobiographical. This full-room installation recreates a living space presenting multiple films and texts. There will also be talks and live performances, including a critique by the curator after the close of the exhibition.
