This exhibition will focus primarily on drawings by a diverse range of artists with a connection to street culture, exploring the various forms of expression their lines take on. Street culture, graffiti in particular, has developed with the evolution in how letters and characters are expressed; by adapting the way they use lines, artists can develop a unique and recognizable signature style. The role of lines in the representation of letters is something similarly pursued in the art of calligraphy. It is the language of expression in graffiti, however, that has developed further to incorporate the experience of movement, taking into consideration changes in environment, culture, technology and methodology. This exhibition will map out developments in this form of mark making and expression.
