Artists

Mika Aoki
Mika Aoki is known for her glass sculptures that draw inspiration from the invisible life of microscopic organisms such as spores, mold, bacteria, viruses and cells. Aoki’s transparent glass sculptures come to life through her delicate use of the burner-work technique. The impressive presence of her translucent works that emanate a glowing life force has attracted large audiences.

This exhibition taking the life cycle of plants as its central theme will present a dynamic installation that combines Aoki’s glass sculptures with light in order to express the connections between invisible life. Over the hundreds of millions of years leading to the present day, organisms on the earth have repeated life and death cycles day in and day out. See how Aoki expresses the process of these mysterious cycles in the microscopic world of plant cells and feel the movement of these unseen organisms while standing quietly in her meditative glass forest.
