Kenji Suzuki

Kenji Suzuki (1906–1987) was a Showa-era printmaker who vividly depicted the lives of townspeople. His outstanding expressions of form flourished in his manga and sketches that became part of the prewar proletariat movement and the Northern Kanto print movement. Through all the changes of his life and era, he kept a steadfast and affectionate gaze on farm villagers, city laborers, and children. With the support of the Kenji Suzuki Print Museum, this comprehensive retrospective for Suzuki, an artist with ties to Tochigi City, presents 300 items including prints, sculptures, and documentation of Suzuki’s life.
