Takeshi Honda
Born in Yamagushi Prefecture, Takeshi Honda is an artist working out of Tono in Iwate Prefecture. After traveling around Europe for three months in his twenties, Honda decided that he would move to Iwate and focus on depicting water in the mountains of Japan. This began with his 1990s “Mountain Walk” series drawn in charcoal pencil. Honda occasionally spends more than ten hours exploring the mountains around Tono, this act of walking bound tightly to his artistic practice. The views that he encounters there become the subjects of his work. Depicted with extreme precision, his works occasionally grow to some eight meters in length. This exhibition will present landscapes in Tono as well as the south of France, which he visited several years ago.
