No Problem - To “B”, or not to “B:” Thinking about ways of living through everyday items

This exhibition looks for hints regarding new ways of living a more tolerant lifestyle here in Japan through understanding “B-class” items that are usually considered inferior. The idea is that by doing so we may stop thinking about value in such narrow terms and reduce the gap between how value is perceived in Japan as compared to somewhere like India. In line with this, “Vision Glass No Problem” is a project that sells “no problem” Vision Glass products produced by Borosil in Mumbai, India, which all have slight scratches or imperfections but continue to function perfectly well. These items are intentionally sold in Japan for the same price as products with no imperfections.
In this exhibition, you can see B-class products produced by Borosil alongside the results of interviews carried out with ten Japanese makers, design companies, and wholesale retailers.
