Gallé Daum Art Nouveau Glass and Asian Aesthetics

Okada Museum Of Art
Finished

Artists

Émile Gallé, Auguste Daum, Antonin Daum
Émile Gallé (1846-1904) and the Daum brothers, Auguste Daum (1853-1909) and Antonin Daum (1864-1930), were leaders of the burgeoning Art Nouveau style that swept across Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. This exhibition will present a lineup of approximately 120 glass works by Gallé and the Daum studio from the collection of museum founder Kazuo Okada, as well as Asian paintings and craft works that were influenced greatly by their pieces. It is the first time that this museum, which normally focuses on works from Japan and the East, will present a special exhibition focusing on Western artworks from the collection. On this occasion you will be able to see the development of Asian aesthetics in context of the long and rich history of glass craft.
