Artists

Uudam Tran Nguyen, Aditya Novali, Rattana Vandy
This group exhibition by three dynamic artists from Southeast Asia is built around three elements: solid lines of light projected by a remotely-controlled robot; elemental colors and shapes that challenge the structural and compositional limits of things; an attempt to turn our attention to society and the home evictions that are being carried out in the name of development.

Uudam Tran Nguyen was born in Kon Tum province in central Vietnam in 1971. He will present “License 2 Draw,” an artwork where viewers are invited to connect and get involved in the production of the work through simple operation of the device via a smartphone/tablet application. Yamamoto Gendai (Tokyo) will be connected with Singapore Art Museum and his studio in Ho Chi Minh City via the Internet, presenting a way of creating work in a virtual space that transcends borders, race, culture, and lifestyles.

Born in Surakarta, Java Island in 1978, Aditya Novali will present ten new works that incorporate her favored disciplines, mathematics and architecture. Building on the relationship between chance and predictability that was explored in her work shown at Art Basel Hong Kong (2017), this body of work probes further questions regarding visual experience.

Rattana Vandy was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 1980. In addition to his photography series “First High-Rise,” which documents high-rise building construction sites in Cambodia and the lives of the workers employed there, he will introduce his “Boeung Kak Eviction” series exploring the forced eviction of people residing in the lake area of Boeung Kak in Phnom Penh, which is due to be developed.
