Estuko Yamagami
Estuko Yamagami has been depicting minerals as motifs in her work for about 2 years. To give an example, she may find a photo of a beautiful rainbow-colored opal and use this as the starting point of a painting. Though Yamagami is attracted to complex colored layers and unexpected arrangements of color spots, she does not copy such images in a precise way, but rather uses them as a base for inspiration. She substitutes the colors with her own hues and paints according to her own rhythm. In this way, several paintings of different sizes can be created from the one opal photograph.
