The theme of this year’s installment of the Shibuya - New York annual Monster Exhibition, which puts out an open call for participants each year, is simply “Monster.” First held in 2013, the event has now welcomed a total of more than 21,000 visitors through its door, including adults and children alike. One of the judges for this year’s exhibition is Taro Igarashi, an architect and the art director of Aichi Triennale 2013. He will be selecting the works alongside curators, art scholars and professional artists from London, New York and Japan. Artorks by 40 artists will be presented here, with awards announced at the opening reception, an event open to the public. Award winners will have the chance to present their works in hpgrp Gallery New York in September this year. Enjoy the range of works on offer, including paintings, videos, sculptures, graphic works, animations, photography and architecture that have been inspired by the monster theme.
