Katsuhiro Otomo
This exhibition celebrates cultural exchange between France and Japan through manga, showing that culture has no borders. It marks Katsuhiro Otomo’s victory at France’s Angouleme International Manga Festival, where he received the Grand Prix in 2016, as well as the publication of “Tribute to Omoto,” an illustrated collection featuring the work of 79 French and Japanese artists heavily influenced by Omoto.

Angouleme International Manga Festival is held in the city of Angouleme in the west of France every January and is recognized as one of the most important manga related events in the world, gathering over 200,000 visitors throughout the festival period. In the past, creators such as Moebius, Enki Bilal, François Schuiten, Robert Crumb and Jose Munoz have won the grand prix, but Otomo is the first Japanese artist to win, picking up the 42nd grand prix award.

In this exhibition you can enjoy seeing bright, high-definition illustrated tributes to Otomo as well as original works by Otomo himself that will be appearing in Japan for the first time. A program of events will accompany the exhibition.
