Megumi Shimizu
The fourth session in a 10-part lecture series on Chinese art by Megumi Shimizu, an artist who worked in China for five years. Topics include Japanese and Western influences on ancient Chinese concepts of art, painting movements in the early 1900s, satirical prewar/postwar art, Neo Dadaism of the 80s and 90s, and Chinese Humanism. Going beyond the government-affiliated ink paintings associated with China, Shimizu introduces an artist’s perspective on the contrasts between art and life in the country, presenting a documentary film and her own art materials.
