Tokusaburo Masamune
Tokusaburo Masamune was born in Bizen, Okayama Prefecture in 1883. After studying at Tokyo Art School he went to France, where he was significantly influenced by Matisse and Monet. He was forced to return to Japan when World War I broke out. During WWII he evacuated to Nagano Prefecture before moving to Fuchu after the war ended to continue his work as an artist until his death at the age of 79. Many of his works depicting Japan’s satoyama scenes remain. This exhibition presents around 100 paintings from his time in Nagano and Fuchu, spotlighting the beauty of his work.
