Long-established regional traditions are being lost amidst the ongoing urbanization of Japan. To honor these customs, D Design Travel is editing 47 tourist guide books, one for each prefecture in Japan, at a rate of three books per year. To produce each book the editors relocate to the prefecture in question and spend around two months experiencing the typical way of life there little by little. This exhibition will commemorate the release of the 21st book in this series, which focuses on Saitama Prefecture. A variety of fascinating objects such as tools and daily items used by those in Saitama will be loaned for presentation here. Each and every item on exhibit will give you a real sense of design that is distinctively “Saitama” and demonstrate how this style has evolved.
