Sony is a global company renowned for its innovations in fields such as video and music. In 1989, Columbia Pictures Entertainment became a member of the Japanese conglomerate, and two years later the motion picture division was restructured as Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). Columbia Pictures is at the center of SPE’s film business and representative of Hollywood, known for producing masterpieces such as the films of director Frank Capra, “On the Waterfront” (1954), “Easy Rider” (1969) and “Taxi Driver” (1976).
In 2016 the National Film Center received a donation of 17 Japanese-language subtitled prints produced and/or distributed by SPE. This screening is an opportunity to see these impressive titles.
