Kiyoji Otsuji + Yutaka Takanashi “Photographic Experimentation and Methodology”

Tokyo Zokei University Museum (Yokoyama Memorial Manzu Museum, ZOKEI Gallery)
Finished

Artists

Kiyoji Otsuji, Yutaka Takanashi
Kiyoji Otsuji and Yutaka Takanashi played a central role in the development of the Photography Major (Video Major, 1971-80) established in the Department of design at Tokyo Zokei University in 1966. They have also left their mark on the history of Japanese photography.
This exhibition revisits their work from a contemporary perspective, also validating the influence of the photography taught at Tokyo Zokei University, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, on the history of photography.
Takanashi’s methodology, which departed from the “opposition” of the 1960s, differs from Otsuji’s experimentation informed by avant-garde art from the prewar period. Discover the diversity of their practice through the numerous works presented here.
