Naoki Sato
After an extensive career in art direction and design, Naoki Sato began to draw familiar vegetation from charcoal in 2013, entitling the series “There, it has grown.” In what will be Sato’s first large-scale solo exhibition, 150 meters of wall space in the Main Gallery of 3331 Arts Chiyoda will be filled with continually evolving artwork, including a panorama spanning 86 meters and new work exceeding 30 meters.

“Why is it that I began to draw in this way now, and have been unable to stop?” Just as Sato continues to ask himself this question, this exhibition invites us to reconsider our natural instincts and the joy in creation supposedly common to all of us, as we follow Sato Naoki on an impulsive, transformational journey from design to drawing. This exhibition brims with the potential to open a new perspective in the context of Japanese painting history.
