Yuka Mori
Yuka Mori is an artist who has continued to produce artwork on the theme of the body, exploring various entities and the boundaries that delineate them. For this exhibition, however, she will present work on the subject of “morning,” expressing the start of the day as a fleeting moment when the contours and borders between time and existence become ambiguous. It is early in the morning, when the darkness begins to recede, that Mori says her body feels as if it is melting into the landscape and merging with the world itself. She believes that with the arrival of morning, every emotion and memory that lurks in the human mind can be absorbed into the environment and purified. As a result, Mori depicts the boundaries between the self and the world disappearing in her work.
With this new series, Mori employs new materials and drawing methods. Though her background is in Japanese-style nihonga painting, here she has tried to exclude Japanese painting techniques in order to work with improvised brush strokes that have not appeared in her work previously. Discover the increasingly complex and organic expressions in her latest pieces.
