Sachiko Miki
Miki has gone beyond her usual theme of emotions to cast a look at what is uncontrollable within herself. “Boundary Zone” represents ambiguity that is generated in the course of categorizing and recognizing everything in the world. The areas of our body and mind that we can neither sense nor control may be larger than we think, including physiological functions as well as wavering emotions that go against our will. Miki begins with drawings in order to unleash her unconscious. Human figures that come into existence based on these drawings appear like a different kind of creature that inhabits the untouchable boundary zone. It is when we stand in front of these figures that we may realize the significance of something unconscious and uncontrollable that we are unaware of in our daily existence. This exhibition showcases new works by the artist, focusing on large sculptures that stretch up towards the gallery ceiling.
