The Emon Award spotlights artists poised to lead new developments in photography and video art. This year’s Grand Prix winner Akira Otsubo creates portrait collages sampling large-format photographs she has taken or collected herself showing family members and historical figures. With a painterly approach, Otsubo’s works mixing the past and the present evoke subtle a imaginative power while reflecting thoughts and feelings for the living in a society full of contradictions. Nine of her circular photographs and new silkscreen prints are on display.
