Gramophone Concert “Jazz Summit (45) – Dizzy Atmosphere”

Intermediatheque
Finished
A cycle of gramophone concerts is regularly held within the Academia lecture theater at Intermediatheque, offering a concert series that focuses on the Satoshi Yuze record collection, from which famous jazz recordings 1920-1940s are selected. They are played on the illustrious Victrola Credenza and other gramophones, in order to share a quality of sound which has now vanished from public spaces.
In the beginning of the 1940s, bebop bands rocked the jazz world led by swing orchestras. Beside Charlie Parker, the leading proponent of this new style was Dizzy Gillespie, who not only revolutionized trumpet playing as a virtuoso, but also contributed to the jazz repertoire as a composer. It is often said that due to historical circumstances the birth of bebop is poorly recorded. However, rare SP records from that era issued by minor labels exist. For Dizzy Gillespie’s centennial, the museum will play Gillespie’s first small band studio sessions on original records.
