Yudai Nishi
Kyoto-born painter Yudai Nishi currently works out of Tokyo. Comprised of simple yet powerful lines, his works devoid of color depict motifs with an air of deja va, where familiar objects seem to have transformed into their own idiosyncratic shape. His style is influenced by American comics and heroes of the 1980s, as well as street art and various other genres. At first glance Nishi’s works appear familiar and simplistic, but what lies within them is commentary on contemporary society and an essential air of confrontation. In this solo exhibition he will present roughly 20 paintings from his main monochrome series on the theme of returning to the point of origin. The subjects of these works, which include animals, body parts, everyday items and fantasy creatures, are drawn with humor and depicted in dynamic lines. Discover the meaning of essence.
