Rediscovering the Beauty of Film and Film Technique

National Film Archive of Japan
Finished

Artists

Koji Shima, Keinosuke Gosho, Kenji Mizoguchi, Kihachi Okamoto, Yves Ciampi et al.
This special event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Motion Picture and Television Engineering Society of Japan (MPTE) will present a selection of Japanese films that were remastered by The Film Center from 2015 to 2016, as well as high-quality archive prints of titles that have received various technical awards. The preservation of movies requires skills much like those practiced by those who produce movies. With the production and screening of analog movies on film drastically decreasing, there are many working to preserve and restore the true appearance of movies on film in the archives, through important activities such as film inspection and remastering of new prints. A total of 14 award-winning works will be screened in ten programs alongside an additional four titles (divided over three programs) that have been restored by the museum.
