Artists

Takamitsu Nii
This show is part of a series exploring the interior and exterior spaces in photography. In his first full-scale exhibition, the keen-eyed photographer Takamitsu Nii presents works framing their compositions around scraps of paper, fliers, plastic bags, and other common items. It is clear that these objects have been deliberately arranged, but why? How are they related? A sense of mystery and unease slowly builds, causing the viewer’s perspective to waver. In stark contrast to street snapshots in which external elements are left to chance, Nii arranges items in empty spaces and encompasses them in rectangular frames, thereby creating new spaces. His works appear to be pop or graphic-influenced at first glance, but on deeper levels they reveal photographic themes related to how the second dimension can give way to the third.
