Artists

Eiji Uematsu
This show focuses on Eiji Uematsu’s ceramic works produced from the 1990’s to the present. Uematsu describes his creative activity as a practice whereby he “faces” soil, a material that predates expression. He considers this to be an interactive process; touching the soil, instinctively embracing the particular characteristics and essence of the material, and making it the medium for his creation. When we stop and look closely at his works, an original relationship between humankind and nature starts to become apparent. Uematsu’s consistent and sincere approach is free from the boundaries of institutionalized modern art and ceramics.
