This exhibition focusing on works by Kaii Higashiyama held in the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT) collection will be presented across two gallery spaces. The collection currently holds 17 major works by Higashiyama - which will all be on exhibit here - in addition to 15 preparatory studies, 20 sketches and 17 prints. If you opt to pay for the audio guide, you can listen to an original recording by Higashiyama, taken from his lecture titled “Me and Landscape Painting” given at the museum when it was still located in Kyobashi in 1968 (Japanese only). As displayed in 1964, you can see Higashiyama’s work “Winter blossom” appear alongside Yasushi Sugiyama’s “Sky” and Tatsuo Takayama’s work of the same title.
