Our current methods communicating takes various forms, including mediation through both online and offline technologies. In particular, it is asynchronous communication via social networking services (SNS), which occupy a considerable proportion of our time, that people are often concerned will isolate and divide us. “Neighbor” is a collaborative media art performance based around two dancers and two experiences, born of a collaboration between brain scientists, a performance group, and musicians. It was produced with the goal of creating a new form of communication using Substitutional Reality (SR) technology that manipulates subjective time and space. The work was initially announced at Print Screen Festival (Tel Aviv, Israel) in June 2016 and was performed at Ars Electronica Festival 2016 (Linz, Austria) in September of the same year. This will be the first time it has appeared in Japan.
