This is the 10th edition of Koganecho Bazaar, an annual art festival hosted by the Koganecho Management Center, an NPO that uses art to revitalize the Yokohama City Naka Ward Koganecho urban area. At one time the number of illegal business in the Koganecho area of Yokohama reached about 260, which caused many long-established shops and local residents from the area to move away and sparked the degeneration of the living environment, which became a growing problem for the surrounding communities. After the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Department began an all-round crackdown in 2005, various regional initiatives and projects lead by the police, the government, businesses, and universities looked to restore the area to its former thriving state, making it a safe and secure place once again.
The first Koganecho Bazaar was held in 2008 with an aim of community development through the arts, welcoming guest artists from various cultural backgrounds to present works based on their experiences and understanding of everyday life in Koganecho. Considering these artists as new residents, their activities, and the coexistence of such diverse cultures, allowed new relationships to form between individuals in the town and a new sense of time to emerge.
