Latest in the series of group exhibitions organized by the gallery assistants of Ota Fine Arts, first held in 2002. The four young artists participating on this occasion have vastly different backgrounds, and in coming together here will attempt to develop their roots as artists in these uncertain times. This is an experimental show that encompasses the modest ambitions of these four emerging artists.
Jong Yugyong is a third generation Korean living in Japan who draws humorous North Korean propaganda posters using a pop-style dot technique. Masayuki Oku, who is set to succeed the company that his grandfather founded, which was involved in the preparation of the 1964 Summer Olympics and may well be involved again in arrangements for the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics, will exhibit an installation that incorporates Tokyo’s New National Stadium as a motif. Lily Shu, an artist of Harbin Chinese descent, shoots photographs of her mother and her bedroom, and Ryusuke Yamai creates print-like works using various copying technology such as fax machines, photocopiers, and scanners.
