Artists

Peter Fischli, David Weiss
Peter Fischli and David Weiss are artists well known for their unique approach aimed at attacking our common sense and stereotypes by suggesting a different view of the world. With their acute insight, the artists focus on the hidden unexpectedness and contradictions in our tranquil, casual everyday life to reveal the essence of human society in an ironic and playful manner.

This exhibition presents the photography series “Fotografias.” Each work consists of six postcard size photographs depicting various subjects such as cats, humans, vehicles, plants, the universe and so on. They are photographs of the colorful illustrations that adorn the exterior walls of pleasure grounds and theme parks. By manipulating the exposure and using a monochrome palate, the comic images that surround us for amusement are turned into traumatic, depressive images. In this way the artists capture a variety of imaginary sights as well as interior thoughts, such as dreams and nightmares. The theme of this body of works may well be connected to the realm of Swiss historical psychoanalysis, typified by Carl Gustav Jung. This exhibition follows hot on the heels of “Peter Fischli David Weiss: How to Work Better” held at the Guggenheim in New York in 2016.
